Indian Lake’s workhorse running back will continue his career on the gridiron. Cole Merritt signed to play for Head Football Coach Joe Fincham and the Wittenberg Tigers in Springfield. His parents and coaches joined him during the signing ceremony.

Merritt ran for more than a thousand yards in the Laker’s 2015 season, earning First Team CBC Mad River Division honors for the second year in a row. He led the team and the league in rushing yards and carried Indian Lake to its first ever playoff game appearance.

As expected, he’s excited to keep playing the game he loves.

“It’s a very special feeling going to the next level. It’s been a dream of mine ever since I played Little Lakers. As for Wittenberg, I like the program, I like the coaches and I want to win a lot of football games,” Merritt said.

Indian Lake Head Football Coach Dave Coburn says Merritt was the heart of the Laker running game and he expects success as Cole continues collegiately.

“We know here at Indian Lake what kind of player Cole is and what kind of hard worker he is. Now he’s going to have to prove that at Wittenberg, which we have every confidence that he’ll be able to do that for the Tigers in Springfield.”
