Finding themselves down by eight points to visiting Greenon with just under five minutes to play, Indian Lake erased the deficit and forced the first of two overtimes when Caylee Wurster drained a runner with :16 in regulation to tie the score at 38 and send the game OT number one. Wurster then scored all seven of the Lady Lakers’ points in the two extra periods – including hitting her last four free throws down the stretch – in a wild 45-43 CBC Mad River Division win over the Lady Knights Jan. 23. It was Indian Lake’s third win of the season, with two of those W’s coming at Greenon’s expense.
Wurster scored over half of the Lakers’ total points, closing with a game-high 24 and sinking 9-of-12 attempts from the charity stripe. Wurster and teammate Katelyn Hogan each hit a three-pointer in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter to help force the first overtime. Hogan finished with nine points and two baskets from long distance.
While Wurster was connecting on her foul shots in the extra eight minutes, the Knights were not. Greenon hit its first four of its free throw attempts of the game, but for the last 16 minutes of the game – the fourth quarter plus the two OTs – went just 4-for-22 from the line.
Indian Lake is now 3-16 on the year and 3-5 in the MRD. Greenon falls to 0-8 in the conference and 2-17 overall. Macey Hardy led the Knights in scoring against the Lakers with 13 points.
The Lakers have just three regular season games left, starting with a visit to MRD-rival Northwestern Jan. 28, then traveling to Kenton Ridge in a CBC-crossover Monday, Feb. 1. Indian Lake closes the regular season at home with a MRD game against Graham Wednesday, Feb. 3.
