DEGRAFF – Riverside connected on 11 of 12 free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter to pull away from Yellow Springs, 39-31, in a non-league girls basketball game Jan. 4 in DeGraff. The Lady Pirates hit 16-of-20 attempts from the charity stripe in the game.

The Pirates gained the eight point win despite scoring but a single point in the second period, the backend of a two-shot foul by Marissa Davis. The Lady Pirates made up for the scoring drought in the second by dropping 17 fourth-quarter points on the Bulldogs, who remain winless on the year. Riverside improves to 4-7 in the season with the victory.

Courtnie Smith netted all four of her foul shots in the final quarter and led the Pirates with 10 points. Davis was also a perfect 4-for-4 from the line in the fourth and closed with seven points and 11 rebounds. Shelby Giles had eight points and 10 boards for the winners.

Yellow Springs’ Liz Smith led all scorers with 20.

Riverside is back in action Thursday, Jan. 7, at Sidney Lehman in a Northwest Central Conference matchup.
