The area’s most academically accomplished high school seniors were encouraged to return to Logan County during the 43rd annual Bellefontaine Rotary Club Honors Night held March 11 at Bellefontaine High School.

More than 165 seniors from Bellefontaine, Benjamin Logan, Calvary Christian, Indian Lake, Ohio Hi-Point, Riverside and West Liberty-Salem Schools who earned a 3.5 grade point average or higher during their last four years were recognized during the program and reception.

New Logan County Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Ben Vollrath was the featured speaker. He spoke to the crowd about his regrets, finding his worth and focusing on his purpose. And he touted opportunities here at home.

“These Rotarians, your parents, the people here could be successful anywhere,” he said. “They choose to be in Logan County. I hope we get to see you back here.”

At the conclusion of Honors Night, Rotary members announced the winners of this year’s six $1,000 Bellefontaine Rotary Club Scholarships. They are Spencer Hughes from Riverside High School, Colin Powers from Indian Lake, Trey Henderson from Bellefontaine, Kathryn Meier from Benjamin Logan, Sarah Painter from West Liberty-Salem and Joelena Brown from Bellefontaine. This year’s scholarships bring the total amount contributed to local scholarships by the Bellefontaine Rotary Club over the years to $206,500.
