Founded and operated by the Indian Lake Community Church as an outreach to the Indian Lake communities, the Gathering Grounds Coffee Shop offers a warm café atmosphere serving regional coffee, specialty drinks, and local baked goods. Open Monday-Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., the coffee shop has special hours and days for community events such as Harbor Fest weekend, 4th of July weekend, the Indian Lake Schools homecoming parade, Trick-or-Treat, Coffee with a Cop, and the Fall Festival.

The Gathering Grounds started when Senior Pastor Jim Ellington noticed the IL Motors had vacated the building on the corner of Main and 366. He stated, “That location would be a great place for a coffee shop.”

A church strategy and planning meeting was chaired by Linsey Titus and Char Ellington and several people from church attended. They formed the foundation, gave the shop its name, and created tremendous momentum. After much planning and hard work, we opened on October 30, 2017.

The greatest asset are dedicated volunteers who work the shop alongside two paid managers. Most are church members but others come from the community. They are the heartbeat of the GG and make us unique. They know many of our patrons, offer tours to visitors of the complete facility including the Lookout Youth Center and administrative area, while lending smiling faces to our church and a voice to the mission we are delivering at the Gathering Grounds.

A majority of the profits from the coffee shop go right back into the community. We are currently preparing to deliver $1,500 in grant money to the teachers at the Indian Lake Schools.

“The Gathering Grounds has delivered on our expectations of offering great coffee in a great atmosphere while introducing many in the community and around the region to our mission at Indian Lake Community Church and the Lighthouse at Indian Lake” stated Pastor Ellington.

This coming anniversary week we are giving away daily gift baskets to thank our patrons who over the last year have helped to make the Gathering Grounds and our mission of expanding God’s word to our local communities such a success.
