It’s not really just a festival and it’s not exactly a full-fledged county fair. It’s a small-town fair they call the DeGraff Country Fair.
And it was a blast! It’s a three-day event put on by local volunteers to bring the local community together for fellowship and fun. It was truly small town USA at its best. Musician John Cougar Mellencamp, singer of the hit song “ Small Town.” would have been proud.
They had a little bit of everything going this past Aug. 23-25. We are talking pageants, karaoke, wrestling, dancing, fair food, carnival rides, a beer garden and live bands. And that was just on Thursday and Friday.
The main event day, Saturday, kicked off with the 6th annual 5k Road Race and Fun Run, followed by cardio drumming and then a pep rally. Next up was the big parade and then “DeGraff’s Got Talent,” followed by a cornhole tournament.
The evening festivities began with the 8th annual Baked Goods Auction followed by bingo and then the Brain Freeze Snowcone Eating Contest. The fair wrapped up with its grand finale when headliner band “Bamboo Harris” took the main stage at 9pm and rocked the faithful into the night playing one classic rock hit after another. It was quite a big-time affair for a cool little small town to pull off.
