Indian Lake Schools will host an Open House Night for all buildings on Monday, Aug. 20, with staggered hours. School begins Aug. 22. ILES – Back to School Night will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. There will not be a group meeting in the gym. Please proceed to classrooms and meet with teachers. ILMS – The Middle School Open House is set for 5 to 7 pm. A 5th Grade Orientation meeting will begin at 4:45 pm in the gym. Students may pick up schedules, meet teachers and pay fees beginning at 5 pm. ILHS – Freshman orientation will be held at 6 pm in the ILHS Auditorium. The High School Open House will follow from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. There will also be a Senior Meeting at 7 pm in the Auditorium. Students may pick up schedules in the cafeteria. You will also be able to pay fees, learn about activities/clubs, grading policies, parking permits, technology and campus security.

The 6th annual DeGraff Country Fair 5k Run & Fun Run will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, in front of the stage in downtown DeGraff. Registration begins at 7 a.m. Start time is 8 a.m. Pre-registration deadline: entry forms must be postmarked by Aug. 10. Under age 18 must have parental release forms signed. Race awards immediately following race. Prizes awarded for top Male and Female overall and in each group. All participants will be automatically entered into the general drawing for raffle prizes. $20 Pre-Registration postmarked by Aug.11th – includes T-shirt. $15 Race day or pre-registered without T-shirt. Inside The DeGraff Country Fair’s office will be an Honor & Memorial Wall for anyone who has served in the U.S. Military. The service person does not have to be from this area. Last year there were 100 participants. Submit the person’s name, rank, branch, years of service and where stationed along with a 4 x 6 picture. West Liberty United Methodist Church is once again offering Grief Support through GriefShare, a 13-week seminar and support group to help rebuild life after losing a loved one, offering help, encouragement and hope. Two session times are offered: Mondays at 10 a.m. Aug. 20 to Nov. 12; or Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 21 to Nov. 13. There is a $5 registration fee. The Logan County Farmers Market is open Saturdays 8:30 a.m.-noon May through September at the corner of Chillicothe and Detroit in downtown Bellefontaine. SNAP, Medicaid, WIC cardholders get extra $ for produce. Kids 5-12 get $2 in tokens for produce.

The Logan County Health District offers free HIV testing the third Monday of every month from 1:30 to 3 p.m. (starting June 18). Testing is confidential. The goal of this program is to prevent the spread of the HIV disease through education and testing.

Journey Christian Cancer Support meets 6:30-8 p.m. on the second Monday of each month at Quest Community Church, 110 South St., in West Liberty. It is free and the building is handicap accessible. Long-time cancer survivors, current cancer patients and their caregivers are invited. This is a community event sponsored by the church. A table of books and resources are available to use. Women who have experienced infertility or miscarriage, are undergoing fertility treatments, or are considering adoption are invited to a monthly support group that meets at Memorial Hospital. HOPE, an independent, peer-led, female-only support group provides an opportunity to share information, discuss sensitive issues, or just listen to others. Meetings are confidential, unbiased and planned to provide support and comfort. The Food Pantry of Wake Up the World Ministries is open the last Friday of each month from 4 to 6 p.m. to individuals and families in Logan County needing food and who qualify under the Second Harvest Food Bank criteria. The church is at the former Northeastern Elementary, 600 Brown Ave., Bellefontaine. Qualified individuals and families can secure three days of food, including veggies, meats and canned goods, by entering the church’s back entrance. Overeaters Anonymous meets at 10 a.m. each Monday at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 1505 S. Main St., in Bellefontaine. This meeting is open to anyone who wants to stop eating compulsively. The Logan County Art League holds an Open Studio 7-9 p.m. on the 2nd, 3rd and 4rh Monday of each month so people can bring in their visual arts projects to work on among like-minded artists. Try new things, gain direction, get encouragement and explore. It will be a safe place to share ideas and get inspiration. It is open to anyone in the arts, at any level, and in any media. There will be several experienced artists on hand to help, so beginners are welcome. Just bring your project and your supplies and join us. There is no cost.

The Indian Lake United Christian Services Food Pantry at the Municipal Building, 433 state Route 708, Russells Point, offers food assistance to all residents of the Indian Lake School District on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Thursdays of the month. The Food Pantry is staffed entirely by volunteers and operates solely with donated funds and food.

TB testing is done 8:30 a.m.-noon and 1:30-4 p.m.on Mondays and Tuesdays. The charge is $20 cash, or check with ID. Most Ohio Medicaid plans are accepted.
