Logan County Retired Teachers met for their first 2018 meeting in April. Over 40 people met at the Bellefontaine First United Methodist Church for dinner. Entertainment was provided by harpist Josephine and Jillian Davis.
Dr. Robin Rayfield, executive director of ORTA (Ohio Retired Teachers Association), B.J. Woodruff, former ORTA representative, and Ralph Moon, new ORTA representative, all gave short talks about ORTA.
Also present were four of the six winners of the Lucy Brown classroom grants. Those present were Rebekah Troyer from West Liberty Salem Elementary, Marie Baughman, Riverside Elementary, Donna Brunner, Bellefontaine Elementary and Melissa Printz, Calvary Christian School. Jana Core and Barb Kuch could not attend. Each teacher explained how she used the $250 Grant money on her classroom. The grants ranged from alternative seating to science equipment to new library books. President, Emerson Brown awards six grants in memory of his wife, Lucy Brown, a former elementary school teacher. This was the first year President Brown implemented this project. He plans to continue it for next year.
The group will meet on June 21 for the next meeting. Any retired educator is welcome to join the group. For more information you can call Emerson Brown at 937 404 9453. Logan County Retired Teachers also has a Facebook page available.
