Local volunteers, Indian Lake Development Corporation (ILDC) members, Indian Lake State Park employees (ODNR) and HONDA GO associates from Honda of America Mfg. (HAM) kicked off Spring cleaning around the parks at Indian Lake Friday April 13. Friday the 13th turned out to be anything but unlucky. It was a beautiful, warm, sunny day!

Cleanup was done at Fox Island and Post Office Island from 8 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. An extensive amount of cleanup was accomplished. It could not have been a more perfect outcome.

Volunteers accomplished shoreline cleaning, flower bed weeding, spreading of river rock, tree edging, tree mulching and general sprucing up of the two islands. Everyone attacked these chores with a smile on their face in appreciation for the beautiful lake available to us.

The Honda GO volunteer associates are doing the State Park a great favor in choosing to work with us around the lake. Multiple Honda plants are scheduling dates to volunteer, performing tasks needing attention, including the Marysville Auto Plant and Transmission Manufacturing at Russells Point.

Saturday, April 21 is scheduled for cleaning the Old Field Beach area, Blackhawk shelter house and boat ramp area. Earth Day is Sunday, April 22 and our goal is to have these areas looking sharp to celebrate the date.

Future cleaning dates are also being discussed. The particular areas to receive attention are determined by the number of volunteers expected, park needs, weather and capabilities of the volunteers. Besides shoreline cleaning, we plan to accomplish some painting of restrooms, help construct playground equipment, build shade structures and whatever else can be done to help make our lake a safe and beautiful environment for all to share.

If you would like to help on these projects, contact Charlie Strete at 740/215-1110 or Dale Frymyer at 937/539-0430.
