The Midwest Regional ESC will host the annual Logan County Spelling Bee on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at 6 p.m. at Riverside Schools. The top spellers from each school in the county will compete for the title.

Indian Lake Local Schools invites residents 55 and older to a free breakfast at the Indian Lake Middle School Cafeteria on Friday, Feb. 2, from 9 to 10:30 am. This is a chance to meet with Interim Superintendent Rob Underwood and connect with ILMS educators. There will be a hearty meal, followed by performances from the ILMS Spectaculars and Sophisticlefts Show Choirs. The Lego Robotics Teams will offer demonstrations and the ILMS Media Center Maker Space will be open. Members of the ILMS Student Council will offer tours of the building. Indian Lake and Benjamin Logan High Schools will take part in the second annual OHSAA Battle for the Golden Megaphone Contest during the basketball contests at home on Friday, Jan. 19. The theme is Military Appreciation Night and the school asks fans to come out in force for this event honoring veterans and current members of the Armed Forces. IL Athletic Director Jeff Courter is offering free admission to the games to any veteran or current member of the military. Indian Lake students who wear camouflage or respectful military garb will get into the games free of charge. Fans are encouraged to make signs, banners or any other appropriate displays to honor veterans and those currently serving in the military. The school will tweet pictures and videos from that night to @OHSAASports #Golden Megaphone and ask that students favorite/retweet the submissions. The Battle for the Golden Megaphone’s goal is to find the best student sections in the state. The winner gets a banner, recognition by OHSAA at the state boys basketball tournament and an award for its athletic department.

Indian Lake Schools is teaming up with the Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District and Mary Rutan Hospital to offer a Winter Walking Program for the public at Indian Lake High School. The program will be open Monday through Thursday 6-7:30 p.m. January through March. Winter Walking will not take place on nights of scheduled home basketball contests or any day that school is cancelled due to inclement weather.

Book Club, For A Brew Generation – Books on Tap! Women who have experienced infertility or miscarriage, are undergoing fertility treatments, or are considering adoption are invited to a monthly support group that meets at Memorial Hospital. HOPE, an independent, peer-led, female-only support group provides an opportunity to share information, discuss sensitive issues, or just listen to others. Meetings are confidential, unbiased and planned to provide support and comfort. Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. in Meeting Room E at Memorial Hospital, 500 London Ave. in Marysville (use entrance E). The Food Pantry of Wake Up the World Ministries is open the last Friday of each month from 4 to 8 p.m. to individuals and families in Logan County needing food and who qualify under the Second Harvest Food Bank criteria.The church is in downtown Bellefontaine on the corner of East Columbus Avenue and Madriver Street, across Columbus Avenue from the Huntington Bank. Qualified individuals and families can secure three days of food, including fresh veggies, meats and canned goods, by entering the church’s side entrance on Madriver Street. Overeaters Anonymous meets at 10 a.m. each Monday at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 1505 S. Main St., in Bellefontaine. This meeting is open to anyone who wants to stop eating compulsively. The Logan County Art League holds an Open Studio 7-9 p.m. on the 2nd and 3rd Monday of each month so people can bring in their visual arts projects to work on among like-minded artists. Try new things, gain direction, get encouragement and explore. It will be a safe place to share ideas and get inspiration. It is open to anyone in the arts, at any level, and in any media. There will be several experienced artists on hand to help, so beginners are welcome. Just bring your project and your supplies and join us. There is no cost.

Logan/Champaign Counties Survivor of Suicide (SOS) Support Group for those bereaved by suicide will meet 6:30-8 p.m. the 2nd Thursday of each month at the MHDAS Board, 123 N. Detroit St., West Liberty, with topics and events planned for each month.

The Indian Lake United Christian Services Food Pantry at the Municipal Building, 433 state Route 708, Russells Point, offers food assistance to all residents of the Indian Lake School District on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Thursdays of the month. The Food Pantry is staffed entirely by volunteers and operates solely with donated funds and food.

The Logan County Health District Office, 310 S. Main St., Bellefontaine, is open 8:30 a.m.-noon and 1:30 to 4 p.m. Monday-Thursday; and 8:30 a.m. to noon Friday. For more information, call 937-651-6186.

The Logan County Health District is offering flu shots for all ages during the regular Immunization Clinics every Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. and the 1st Thursday of the month from 2 to 6 p.m. Most insurances are accepted, but it is suggested to call 937-651-6186 Monday-Wednesday to preregister for the Thursday clinic.

TB testing is done 8:30 a.m.-noon and 1:30-4 p.m.on Mondays and Tuesdays. The charge is $20 cash, or check with ID.
