LEWISTOWN – More than 60 Indian Lake High School students took to the gridiron Sunday afternoon at Laker Stadium to raise money for those affected by Hurricane Irma.
The Sophomore Class of 2020 beat the Freshman Class of 2021 in the first game of the ILHS Powder Puff Football Tournament. Then the Senior Class of 2018 beat the Juniors. In the consolation game, the Freshmen beat the Juniors. The Sophomores defeated the Seniors in the Championship game. Players for the winning Sophomore team were: Kaylee Shelton, Bethany Golliday, Callie Stidam, Paige Schindewolf, Hailey Westberry, Chloe Laing-Harford, Kassidy Crockett, Alyson Huffman, Hailey Even, Kylee Morrison, Macey Taylor and Lexi Clem. Coaches were: Nate Reichert, Chris Murphy and Clay Jacobs.
The Indian Lake High School Key Club and Student Council sponsored the annual event. Key Club Advisor Jenifer Ignarski says between player entry fees, the gate at the game and a bake sale, the event garnered nearly $500. An Indian Lake teacher has a family member who serves as Superintendent of Tampa City Schools. When the City of Tampa restored power to one of the area’s elementary schools after the hurricane, something went wrong and the school burned to the ground.
All Powder Puff proceeds will be donated to Tampa City Schools.
