The July 28 Huntsville Council meeting was called to order by Mayor William H. Jenkins with the following members answering roll call: Deb Anderson, Jean Cotterman, Sarah Shirk and Margaret Frazier. Monica Yelton and Lori Fisher were absent. The minutes of the last meeting were approved as read. Jean Cotterman motioned to pay the bills and Deb Anderson seconded. All concurred on roll call. Visitors for the evening were Larry and Carol Armstrong, Troy Demster, Soccer Assciation and Connor Scott, Bellefontaine Examiner.

Larry and Carol Armstrong were at the Council meeting to represent the WOHP radio station. They wanted to thank the Council for helping with the grand opening of the radio station at the 150th Anniversary Celebration. The Council in turn thanked them for all the hard work they put into the celebration.

Mayor Jenkins told Council that he attended the Mayor’s meeting on Wednesday, July 15th. He told Council that the health board is asking for a .8 millage levy for operating expenses.

He also told Council that he received a phone call from Paul Tomic, a representative of the Dollar General Store, asking for information about the base flood elevation for the proposed building site. The Mayor referred him to the Logan County Engineers office for the information.

Troy Dempster, Huntsville Soccer Association, gave the Council information about the upcoming soccer league. August 8th will be opening day with a goal-a-thon, scrimmages and pictures from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Huntsville will be hosting the games on August 29th and September 5th. He also turned in the signed waivers for the Village’s files.

Mayor Jenkins informed Council that the resurfacing of Lion’s Drive, Willoby Street, Second Street, Towne Street and McArthurChristineMyers Streets will be on August 14 and 15 weather permitting. That brought up the question about trucks parking off Lion’s Drive and tearing up the street. Mayor Jenkins told Council that they could put an ordinance in place to stop out of town trucks from parking at the pit. He told them we need to have an open discussion on what should be on the ordinance and to research other entities who have truck parking ordinances. There will be an open discussion at our next Council meeting on August 11th at 7:00 p.m.

Once again there was a complaint of a vehicle parking across a sidewalk and blocking the view of traffic from St. Rt. 117. Deputy Doug Mitchell has been addressing the problem and has been talking to residents who are parking across sidewalks. Sidewalks are a public right of way and are to be kept open.

Also it was noted that representatives from Lug Nuts and Desperados have been going door to door to get signatures on a petition to put on the November ballot. The petitions are for Sunday liquor sales.

Margaret Frazier adjourned the meeting.
