LAKEVIEW – Indian Lake Local Schools and its community partners will receive a $33,000 grant to match at-risk students with community mentors.
The $32,969.65 Community Connectors state grant for Indian Lake schools, Bud’s Marine and Indian Lake Community Church will connect students with adults who can act as role models or sources of information or encouragement, according to an Ohio Department of Education press release.
Community Connectors is a program announced by Gov. John Kasich in his 2014 State of the State address to help give more Ohio students access to role models who can motivate them and help them develop skills that lead to success in school and the workplace. Statewide, $6.8 million in grants were awarded to non-profits and values-based groups to mentor students in the program, according to a press release.
The education department said lawmakers agreed to provide an additional $20 million in the state budget to fund more projects over the next two years.
