Green Hills Community is offering another session of “Matter of Balance” to help reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels for older adults. The course is offered from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays from Aug. 24 to Sept. 28 in the Training Room at Green Hills Community, 6557 S. U..S. 68, West Liberty. The presenter is Nita Wilkinson, a certified balance trainer. This is a 6-week structured group intervention that emphasizes practical strategies to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels. Participants learn to view falls and fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors, and exercise to increase strength and balance. The Ohio Department of Transportation announced/updated the following projects:

*State Route 508 between Township Road 30 and County Road 62, bridge closure through Aug. 5. The official detour is state Route 235 to state Route 47 to U.S. Route 68.

*U.S. 33 between county Road 57 and state Route 540, 24-hour lane closures through Sept. 30. One lane will remain open in each direction.

*District-wide chip and seal project on Logan state Route 287; Champaign state Routes 29 and 245 and 559; and Clark state Route 41. Various lane closures through Sept. 30 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. One lane will remain open for travel in each direction through the use of flaggers.

The Turkeyfoot Benefit Crew will host its 3rd annual 4-Person Best Ball Scramble on Saturday, Aug. 27, at Prairie View Golf Course. Miami Grange in DeGraff hosts a pancake, sausage breakfast from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 16. The cost is $6 for adults and $2.50 for children.

Miami Grange will host a pancake breakfast in conjunction with the DeGraff Country Fair 7:30-11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27.

The West Liberty United Church of Christ, United Methodist and United Presbyterian churches are collectively offering Vacation Bible School 6-8:30 p.m. Monday, July 25-Friday, July 29, at the United Methodist Church, 202 W. Newell St., offers Grief Support through a program called GriefShare, a weekly seminar and support group designed to help rebuild lives after losing a loved one, offering help, encouragement and hope. The Logan County Art League holds an Open Studio 7-9 p.m. on the 2nd and 3rd Monday of each month so people can bring in their visual arts projects to work on among like-minded artists. Try new things, gain direction, get encouragement and explore. It will be a safe place to share ideas and get inspiration. It is open to anyone in the arts, at any level, and in any media. There will be several experienced artists on hand to help, so beginners are welcome. Just bring your project and your supplies and join us. There is no cost.

The Logan County Health District Office, 310 S. Main St., Bellefontaine, is open 8:30 a.m.-noon and 1:30 to 4 p.m. Monday-Thursday; and 8:30 a.m. to noon Friday. Hours have been reduced due to budget cuts. WIC hours are not affected. For more information, call 937-651-6186.

The Logan County WIC has monthly breastfeeding classes at the Logan County Health District office. The classes are open to the public; you do not need to be on WIC to participate. The class is designed for anyone thinking about breastfeeding to help determine the right choice for themselves and their baby. For more information call the health district at 937-651-6191.

TB testing is done 8:30 a.m.-noon and 1:30-4 p.m.on Mondays and Tuesdays. The charge is $20 cash, or check with ID.
