Logan County Music and Art Festival to be held Friday, April 8

BELLEFONTAINE – The Midwest Regional Educational Service Center announces the 87th annual Logan County Music and 48th annual Art Festival on Friday, April 8, 2016 at Riverside High School.

This event is a joint effort of the music and art teachers in Benjamin Logan, Indian Lake and Riverside school districts. Outstanding artwork from all grade levels will be displayed in the Riverside high school gym from 4-8 p.m.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. The All County Junior High and All County High school Honors choir is made up of the musical talents from Indian Lake, Benjamin Logan and Riverside local schools, they will perform several musical selections. Xavier University Assistant Professor of Music Education and Director of Choral Activities Dr. Richard Schnipke in the Department of Music & Theatre will be the guest conductor for the All County High School Choir performances. He teaches Choral Methods and Conducting as well as conducts the Concert Choir and Women’s and Men’s Choruses. Previously, Schnipke was on the faculty at Ohio State University where he taught courses in Choral Music Education, Choral Repertoire, and Vocal Pedagogy, as well as conducted the Women’s Glee Club. Schnipke has 11 years’ experience as an Ohio public school vocal music educator. Throughout his career, high school and junior high choirs under his direction consistently received superior ratings at Ohio Music Education Association district and state adjudicated events.

Schnipke frequently serves as a guest conductor for various high school and junior high honor choirs throughout the state and is an adjudicator for the Ohio Music Education Association. As a vocalist, Schnipke sings professionally with the Vocal Arts Ensemble of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Fusion Ensemble. Previously, he has also performed with Cincinnati Opera and Opera Columbus.

Dr. Schnipke holds a B.M.E. from Bowling Green State University, as well a M.M. and a D.M.A. in conducting from The Ohio State University. He has also done graduate study at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

The Junior High school Honors Choir will perform “Just One Small Voice,” “Why We Sing,” and “Bound For the Promised Land.”

The High school Honors Choir will perform “How Can I Keep From Singing,” “Erev Shel Shoshanim,” and “Tshotsholoza.”

A special thank you to Lakeview Business Group, and Buckeye Pizza of DeGraff and John’s Painting for their donation to the Logan County Art Scholarship. The scholarship will be given to a student pursuing a college art degree.

The public is invited to attend the 2016 County Music & Art Festival hosted by Riverside Local Schools located at 2096 Road 24 South, DeGraff. The Art Show is open from 4-8 p.m. Retired Art teacher Dave Cline will judge the high school student’s artwork.
