‘Wacky Boats’ sought for August races

It is time to start building your boat for the Harborfest “Wacky Boat Races.” Each year the first Saturday in August has seen the Wacky Boat Races at Russells Point Harbor and it is an event everyone looks forward to seeing. This year we hope to make it bigger and better thanks to sponsor Bud’s Marine.

Your Wacky boat must be homemade using any material that floats, however, the material must not be manufactured for marine purposes, including paddling devices. The homemade boat must be “people powered.” Participants must be 18 years of age or accompanied by an adult. Be sure to arrive early if your boat requires on-site “touch ups”. The number of entrants will determine the number of heat races.

Prizes for this event are: top 3 Finishers ($100-$50-$25, Most Creative Use of Materials $25, Best themed Costumes $25. You may also win the “Sinking Ship” award for the first boat to sink.

Ron Perkey will be the MC for the event. Judges will have the final say on all winners.

You can get a registration at the chamber office or on line at www.indianlakechamber.org. Personal flotation devices must be worn while participating in this event.

We would also like you to put your boat in the Wacky Harborfest Parade which begins at 10 a.m. For any additional questions, please call the chamber at 937-843-5392.
