The third nine weeks just began, but it’s already time to start planning for next school year. Indian Lake High School guidance counselors Dana Davis and Valarie Rapp met with the Class of 2017 Jan. 19 to begin making plans for their senior year and beyond.
Whether a student is thinking about attending a 4-year or 2-year college, joining the military or entering the workforce after graduation, counselors explained that this is a critical time for making decisions. “You need to let us know what’s going on in your brain so we know what classes you need to schedule for,” Mrs. Davis told the group.
Students were briefed on the College Credit Plus program at area colleges and those classes available at the high school. Counselors reminded students that the deadline is March 4th to take the April 9th ACT test and that juniors may take two days to visit colleges or universities that interest them.
Finally, they passed out the new ILHS course booklets. Juniors received their transcripts and scheduling sheets. They’ll begin meeting individually with Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Rapp in February to set up classes and programs for Fall 2016. Counselors will be meeting with underclassmen and 8th graders in the coming weeks to work on their schedules for next year as well.
