BELLEFONTAINE – A new Ohio Hi-Point Career Center board member was sworn in for a three-year term at the board’s Jan. 13 meeting.
Mike Ludlow (Graham) was sworn in during the organizational meeting. Ludlow is currently serving a second term as board member for Graham Local Schools. Ludlow retired from Graham High School in 2006 after working as a teacher, librarian and athletic director.
Anne Reames (Bellefontaine) and Bill Ramsey (Benjamin Logan) were voted unanimously to serve as board president and vice president, respectively, for 2016. This will be their ninth consecutive term in these roles.
Warren Stevens (Urbana) was appointed as the legislative liaison for 2016.
As part of the Ohio School Board Association Recognition Month, Superintendent Dr. Rick Smith recognized members of the board of education for their dedication and service to students and education.
The school board recognized Faith Warner, a Printing & Graphics senior from Riverside High School, and Liam Smith, a Culinary Arts senior from Graham High School, as the January Students of the Month.
Smith informed the board the district was awarded part of a teacher grant through the Logan County ESC for Ohio Hi-Point’s teachers to earn additional certifications to provide college credit courses.
In other action, the board:
•Heard an update from Legislative Liaison, Warren Stevens (Urbana).
•Approved the report of the Treasurer including the December 2015 Financial Statement; interest and investments; and appropriation modifications, transfers and advances.
•Approved the donation of $100 for the Graham FCCLA competition expenses from Ron Riley Construction of Findlay, Ohio; and the donation of $200 for the Graham FCCLA competition expenses from Parker Trutec of Findlay, Ohio.
•Approved the out-of-state professional development of Ashley Thompson, Marysville Satellite Ag Instructor, to visit the Chicago Agricultural School in Chicago, Ill., Jan. 4-5, 2016.
•Authorized the Treasurer to contract with Freytag & Associates, an architectural firm, to develop a Scope of Work (SOW) to install a new walk-in cooler and freezer replacement.
•Approved organizational items.
