Youth Leadership Sophomores were hosted Feb. 8 by Bellefontaine High School. This is the last of six training sessions for the Youth Leadership students coordinated by the Midwest Regional ESC. The topic Feb. 8 was “Public Speaking.” The presenters were Linda Clark of Toastmasters and Dave Bezusko of United Way of Logan County. After learning about correct speaking techniques and a sample speech, students were taken out of their comfort zones and asked to step into a career that would include public speaking. For example, a Professor, News Anchor, Mayor, Engineer, or Salesman. Students then went on a tour of the school. After lunch it was on to “Topics”. Leadership students were asked a question and they were given 90 second minimum and 3 minute maximum to speak on the subject. For example, would you rather be a deep see diver or an astronaut? Speaking to students afterward they said they felt awkward at times but felt they really learned something and enjoyed the program.
