Two Adriel residents were charged with burglary last week involving a local church.

According to West Liberty Police Chief Shane Oelker, two girls, 14 and 15, were reported missing from an Adriel Group Home on Sept. 14 at 2:30 p.m. Shortly after 4:30 p.m., police responded to a burglary in progress at the First Church of God, 315 Liberty St.

The caller stated that two females had entered the church and attempted to remove money from the office area. The caller advised the two females, who matched the description of the two missing juveniles, ran from the church when she called 911.

Officers checked the area, but didn’t locate the suspects.

Shortly after 11 a.m. on Sept. 15, the Logan County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding two suspicious people walking in the area of the 3000 block of state Route 287. Descriptions matched those of the juveniles.

Deputies along with West Liberty officers checked the area and after a lengthy search the juveniles were found in a corn field where they were taken into custody without incident.

The juveniles were transported to the Logan County Juvenile Detention Center and charged with burglary. The sheriff’s office also considered the juveniles as suspects in break-ins which occurred overnight in the county.
