Bicentennial Committee donates to local groups

The West Liberty Bicentennial Celebration Committee held its final meeting and donated some of its excess funds to two West Liberty organizations.

The West Liberty Historical Society received a check for $1,000 to go toward the restoration of the Opera House above Town Hall at the July 24 meeting. The check was presented to WLHS President Donna Lou Bratka-Erwin.

The West Liberty Business Association received a check on August 3 during their monthly business meeting. WLBA President, Ryan Berry, accepted the $1,000 check. The WLBA will decide how the funds will be best spent for the community.

The support received for the Troop Banner Project was phenomenal and members of the committee decided the remaining funds will be used to continue the Troop Banner Project for several more years.

The West Liberty Police Department volunteered to take down the banners after Veterans Day and put them back before Memorial Day next year.

The committee will be taking a break from accepting new Troop Banner orders for the time being. New orders will be accepted for Logan and Champaign County Military, past or present, from December 1st until the end of February. Call 937-465-6081 for more information.
