The Knowlton Library will host a Sunblock Party to view the solar eclipse that will occur around 2:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21. Protective eclipse-viewing glasses provided by NASA will be distributed free to participants and outdoor activities and games will be set up for children and adults at 1:30 p.m. While the eclipse is total on a path from Oregon to South Carolina, it will be about 90 percent coverage in this part of Ohio. Eye and camera lens protection should be used at all times when viewing or photographing the eclipse.

Comic-Con @ the Knowlton Library will be Saturday, Aug. 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come dressed as your favorite character. Green Hills/Community Health & Wellness offer Medicare 101. Are you eligible for Medicare in the near future? Have you been on Medicare for a while but need to better understand what it offers? This event covers Medicare Part A and part B benefits, the prescription drug benefit (Part D), Medicare Advantage plans, and Medicare supplement insurance. This program is being offered by Green Hills Community in collaboration with Community Health and Wellness Partnership of Logan County. All are invited to “Barn to Beauty: Restoration of Ohio’s Timber Framed Barns” to learn how bank barns were constructed and view preservation initiatives. Indian Lake Schools will host an Open House Night on Monday, Aug. 21, to welcome families with students across the district. The Indian Lake Elementary Open House will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Parents should proceed to their child’s classroom to meet with teachers. The Indian Lake Middle School will host Open House hours from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Fifth Grade Orientation at 4:45 p.m. in the ILMS Gym. Indian Lake High School will be open from 6:30 to 8 p.m. with a Freshman Orientation at 6 p.m. in the ILHS Auditorium. The first day of school at Indian Lake is Wednesday, August 23.

The Logan County Chamber of Commerce has scheduled the 32nd annual Premier Golf Scramble for Wednesday, Sept. 20, at Liberty Hills Golf Club. Rain date is Wednesday, Sept. 27. The event, limited to 32 teams, starts with registration and continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Sponsors are Citizens Federal Savings & Loan, Liberty National Bank, NEX, and Sims Brothers Recycling. The 2017 BOSS 5K Summer Run and 1 Mile Big Orange Fun Run for runners 10 and under will be held Saturday, Aug. 19 at Lions Park in West Liberty. The fun run will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K race at 9 a.m. The entry fee for the 5K is $20 if registered by Aug. 12 and $25 on race day. The fun run entry fee is $5. All participants registered by August 12th will receive a race shirt. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 3 male and female finishers. Gift certificates will be awarded to age group winners and all runners will receive a race medal. Women who have experienced infertility or miscarriage, are undergoing fertility treatments, or are considering adoption are invited to a monthly support group that meets at Memorial Hospital. HOPE, an independent, peer-led, female-only support group provides an opportunity to share information, discuss sensitive issues, or just listen to others. Meetings are confidential, unbiased and planned to provide support and comfort. The Food Pantry of Wake Up the World Ministries is open the last Friday of each month from 4 to 8 p.m. to individuals and families in Logan County needing food and who qualify under the Second Harvest Food Bank criteria.The church is in downtown Bellefontaine on the corner of East Columbus Avenue and Madriver Street, across Columbus Avenue from the Huntington Bank. Qualified individuals and families can secure three days of food, including fresh veggies, meats and canned goods, by entering the church’s side entrance on Madriver Street. The Logan County Art League holds an Open Studio 7-9 p.m. on the 2nd and 3rd Monday of each month so people can bring in their visual arts projects to work on among like-minded artists. Try new things, gain direction, get encouragement and explore. It will be a safe place to share ideas and get inspiration. It is open to anyone in the arts, at any level, and in any media. There will be several experienced artists on hand to help, so beginners are welcome. Just bring your project and your supplies and join us. There is no cost.

Logan/Champaign Counties Survivor of Suicide (SOS) Support Group for those bereaved by suicide will meet 6:30-8 p.m. the 2nd Thursday of each month at the MHDAS Board, 123 N. Detroit St., West Liberty, with topics and events planned for each month.

The Indian Lake United Christian Services Food Pantry at the Municipal Building, 433 state Route 708, Russells Point, offers food assistance to all residents of the Indian Lake School District on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Thursdays of the month. The Food Pantry is staffed entirely by volunteers and operates solely with donated funds and food.
