Portage County TEA Party Director Tom Zawistowski will address the Top of Ohio Patriots Monday, July 24, at 7 p.m. at the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center, 2280 state Route 540, Bellefontaine. Known as TomZ to fans of his radio show, TEA Party Talk, Zawistowski organized the Portage County TEA Party in 2009 and went on to serve two terms as president of the Ohio Liberty Coalition. He recently developed and led the highly-successful We The People Convention. The forum is open to the public.

DeGraff UMC, 1839 county Road 24, will hold a Free Sale 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, with various items free for the taking. Donations (no mattresses) are welcome July 31-Aug. 4. Volunteers will sort and display 6-8 p.m. each day.

Due to the July 4th 2017 holiday, the Village of Quincy has changed the regular monthly meeting dates as follows for the months of July and August 2017. This will allow for the meetings to be held twice per month and not back to back during these months. Changes include July 18, 2017 to July 25, 2017; August 1, 2017 to August 8, 2017; August 15, 2017 to August 22, 2017. Meetings will return to the first and third Tuesday of each month beginning September 5, 2017 and should continue throughout the remainder of the year. All meetings are held at 7:30 pm in Council Chambers located at 115 N. Miami Street in the Village of Quincy.

The village of Quincy has four Council Member positions that become vacant December 1, 2017. Anyone interested in filing for a Council seat should contact the Logan County Board of Elections for details of filing dates and election dates. The Mayor’s position will also be open for filling the remaining two years of a four-year term due to the appointment of the current Mayor.

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will conduct an “About Boating Safely” class from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on July 29 at the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Moundwood launch ramp, 7490 Edgewater Ave., Huntsville. Five West Liberty area churches and the West Liberty Lions Club will sponsor the area’s 20th-anniversary Ice Cream Social benefit. Each year, proceeds benefit a local family. This year, the Griffin family will receive the proceeds. Triad third grader Alex is to receive his mother’s kidney later this summer. He is the son of Heather and Chuck Griffin. The social will be 4-7:30 p.m. July 22 at the West Liberty United Methodist Church.

The 2017 BOSS 5K Summer Run and 1 Mile Big Orange Fun Run for runners 10 and under will be held Saturday, Aug. 19 at Lions Park in West Liberty. The fun run will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K race at 9 a.m. The entry fee for the 5K is $20 if registered by Aug. 12 and $25 on race day. The fun run entry fee is $5. All participants registered by August 12th will receive a race shirt. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 3 male and female finishers. Gift certificates will be awarded to age group winners and all runners will receive a race medal. The Logan County Art League is making a call for fine artists and fine craftspeople to participate in Art on the Beach (previously Art on the Harbor). The 8th annual art festival will be held on Aug. 5-6 at Oldfield Beach, Lakeview. This will be an opportunity for artists to show and sell their work. The location can be reached by both car and boat. The event will include entertainment, a free music festival and food vendors. Women who have experienced infertility or miscarriage, are undergoing fertility treatments, or are considering adoption are invited to a monthly support group that meets at Memorial Hospital. HOPE, an independent, peer-led, female-only support group provides an opportunity to share information, discuss sensitive issues, or just listen to others. The Food Pantry of Wake Up the World Ministries is open the last Friday of each month from 4 to 8 p.m. to individuals and families in Logan County needing food and who qualify under the Second Harvest Food Bank criteria.The church is in downtown Bellefontaine on the corner of East Columbus Avenue and Madriver Street, across Columbus Avenue from the Huntington Bank. Qualified individuals and families can secure three days of food, including fresh veggies, meats and canned goods, by entering the church’s side entrance on Madriver Street. The Logan County Art League holds an Open Studio 7-9 p.m. on the 2nd and 3rd Monday of each month so people can bring in their visual arts projects to work on among like-minded artists. Try new things, gain direction, get encouragement and explore. It will be a safe place to share ideas and get inspiration. It is open to anyone in the arts, at any level, and in any media.
