Head Starts are located at Ben Logan Elementary, Indian Lake Elementary, Riverside Elementary, and the Discovery Center in Bellefontaine. Catholic Social Services administers no-cost services to those at least 60 years old and eligible for Medicaid. The program is called PASSPORT (Pre-Admission Screening System Providing Options and Resources Today). Green Hills Community will host an education luncheon from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27, to explain services available through PASSPORT and how one applies. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. with lunch in Foundation Hall, located in the Green Hills Community Center, 6557 S. U.S. Route 68, West Liberty. The West Liberty-Salem cross country program will sponsor the Big Orange Elementary Running Club for grades 3-6 starting Wednesday, June 28, from 8 to 9 a.m. at Lions Park in West Liberty. The 2017 BOSS 5K Summer Run and 1 Mile Big Orange Fun Run for runners 10 and under will be held Saturday, Aug. 19 at Lions Park in West Liberty. The fun run will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K race at 9 a.m. The entry fee for the 5K is $20 if registered by Aug. 12 and $25 on race day. The fun run entry fee is $5. All participants registered by August 12th will receive a race shirt. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 3 male and female finishers. Gift certificates will be awarded to age group winners and all runners will receive a race medal. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will conduct “About Boating Safely” classes from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 17 at the Moundwood Launch Ramp, Indian Lake. The Logan County Art League is making a call for fine artists and fine craftspeople to participate in Art on the Beach (previously Art on the Harbor). The 8th annual art festival will be held on Aug. 5-6 at Oldfield Beach, Lakeview. This will be an opportunity for artists to show and sell their work. The location can be reached by both car and boat. The event will include entertainment, a free music festival and food vendors. Women who have experienced infertility or miscarriage, are undergoing fertility treatments, or are considering adoption are invited to a monthly support group that meets at Memorial Hospital. HOPE, an independent, peer-led, female-only support group provides an opportunity to share information, discuss sensitive issues, or just listen to others. The Food Pantry of Wake Up the World Ministries is open the last Friday of each month from 4 to 8 p.m. to individuals and families in Logan County needing food and who qualify under the Second Harvest Food Bank criteria.The church is in downtown Bellefontaine on the corner of East Columbus Avenue and Madriver Street, across Columbus Avenue from the Huntington Bank. Qualified individuals and families can secure three days of food, including fresh veggies, meats and canned goods, by entering the church’s side entrance on Madriver Street. The Logan County Art League holds an Open Studio 7-9 p.m. on the 2nd and 3rd Monday of each month so people can bring in their visual arts projects to work on among like-minded artists. Try new things, gain direction, get encouragement and explore. It will be a safe place to share ideas and get inspiration. It is open to anyone in the arts, at any level, and in any media. There will be several experienced artists on hand to help, so beginners are welcome. Just bring your project and your supplies and join us. There is no cost.
