The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will conduct “About Boating Safely” classes from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 17 at the Moundwood Launch Ramp, Indian Lake. The Logan County Health District’s 6th annual 5K Mardi Gras Walk was cancelled April 29 due to thunderstorms. At this time the walk will not be rescheduled. Those who purchased T-shirts can pick them up at the health district during regular business hours: Monday-Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-noon or 1:30-4 p.m.; Friday, 8:30 a.m.-noon. Your support was greatly appreciated and the Health District looks forward to next year.

The final Family Game Night will kick off Screen Free Week at Indian Lake Elementary School on Monday, May 8. Join us from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for free hot dogs, chips and cookies in the cafeteria. Dress up as your favorite story book character and receive a free book if you are one of the first 75 ILES students in attendance. Plus get a selfie taken with your favorite staff character. There will also be a bounce house, Relay for Life items available for purchase, and even more fun and games. Screen-Free Week is an annual event where children, families, schools and communities are encouraged to turn off screens and “turn on life.”

Calvary Christian School grades 2-6 will present the fun-filled musical “The Agape League” on Friday, May 5, at 7 p.m. This high-octane story unfolds in the impenetrable Agape Fortress, where superheroes come together to do good and to help not only one of their own, who has forgotten his identity, but to aid two kids in Suburbiana city needing reminders of the fruit of the Spirit. The Indian Lake Spring Band Concert will be held on Thursday, May 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the ILHS auditorium. It will feature the 5th grade band under the direction of Morissa Sweeney and the 6th grade band, the 7/8th grade band, the High School Jazz Band and the High School Symphonic Band, all under the direction of Jason Fauley. Admission is free. Donations to the Music Department will be accepted.

The Indian Lake Spring Choral Concert will be held on Tuesday, May 16th at 7:30 pm in the ILHS Auditorium. It will feature the ILMS 6th Grade Choir, the ILMS 7/8th Grade Choir and the ILHS Chorale, that recently earned a Superior rating at the State Large Group Adjudicated Event. All choirs are under the direction of Joyce King. Admission is free. Donations to the IL Music Department accepted.

The Indian Lake Show Choir Spectacular will be held on Friday, May 19th at 7 pm in the ILHS Auditorium. This event will feature the 5/6th Grade Spectaculars under the director of Tracey Notestine, the 7/8th Grade Sophisticlefs under the direction of Amanda Strayer, the ILHS Vocal Jazz Ensemble and the ILHS Meistersingers under the direction of Joyce King. Admission is $4 per person, with a family cap of $16.

Indian Lake Athletic Physical Day will be held Tuesday, May 23. Examinations will begin at noon at the high school. Students must bring a completed physical form signed by a parent. 2017-18 Physical Forms can be found under the Athletics tab at ils-k12.org. This is a requirement for any student planning to take part in sports during the 2017-18 school year. Physicals cost $10.

Do you know what your digital tattoo is? How about your child’s? Adults of the community are invited to a free social media safety program with expert Katie Greer at Indian Lake High School in the auditorium on Wednesday, May 10, at 7 p.m. Greer is a former intelligence analyst and expert on internet/digital safety and technology, advising various governmental and private agencies. She will cover topics like updates on the latest technology trends and dangers on apps, social networks and devices, the implications of chronicling lives online, teaching kids to use latest tools responsibly, interactive gaming, sexting and more. The Logan County Art League is making a call for fine artists and fine craftspeople to participate in Art on the Beach (previously Art on the Harbor). The 8th annual art festival will be held on Aug. 5-6 at Oldfield Beach, Lakeview. This will be an opportunity for artists to show and sell their work. The location can be reached by both car and boat. The event will include entertainment, a free music festival and food vendors. On Saturday, May 6, National Alliance on Mental Illness of Champaign and Logan Counties and Recovery Zone will hold the 18th Annual Mental Illness Awareness Walk and Fundraiser. The public is invited to share in this event. This event will be held at the West Liberty Lions Park. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. The event will go off rain or shine. Another session of fall prevention classes for older adults will be held 9 to 10 a.m. Thursdays starting May 25 in the Chapel in the Green Hills Community Center, 6557 S. U.S. 68, West Liberty. The presenter is Nita Wilkinson, a certified balance trainer. This 6-week program emphasizes practical strategies to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels. Participants learn to view falls and fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors, and exercise to increase strength and balance. The Indian Lake Cancer Walk and 5K Run will be held Saturday, June 3, with the run at 8 a.m. and walk at 9 a.m. All proceeds go to the Logan County Cancer Society. Perennial Swap at the Knowlton Library Saturday, May 13 at 11:05 a.m. Please have items labeled and at the parking north of the Library at 11 a.m. If raining the swap will be held in the AcuSport Community Room inside the library. Women who have experienced infertility or miscarriage, are undergoing fertility treatments, or are considering adoption are invited to a monthly support group that meets at Memorial Hospital. HOPE, an independent, peer-led, female-only support group provides an opportunity to share information, discuss sensitive issues, or just listen to others. Meetings are confidential, unbiased and planned to provide support and comfort. The Food Pantry of Wake Up the World Ministries is open the last Friday of each month from 4 to 8 p.m. to individuals and families in Logan County needing food and who qualify under the Second Harvest Food Bank criteria.The church is in downtown Bellefontaine on the corner of East Columbus Avenue and Madriver Street, across Columbus Avenue from the Huntington Bank. Qualified individuals and families can secure three days of food, including fresh veggies, meats and canned goods, by entering the church’s side entrance on Madriver Street. The Logan County Art League holds an Open Studio 7-9 p.m. on the 2nd and 3rd Monday of each month so people can bring in their visual arts projects to work on among like-minded artists. Try new things, gain direction, get encouragement and explore. It will be a safe place to share ideas and get inspiration. It is open to anyone in the arts, at any level, and in any media. There will be several experienced artists on hand to help, so beginners are welcome. Just bring your project and your supplies and join us. There is no cost.

The Indian Lake United Christian Services Food Pantry at the Municipal Building, 433 state Route 708, Russells Point, offers food assistance to all residents of the Indian Lake School District on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Thursdays of the month. The Food Pantry is staffed entirely by volunteers and operates solely with donated funds and food.
