Calvary Christian School students participate in ‘Youth in Governement’

Eight Calvary Christian High School students attended this year’s Youth in Government program at the Ohio statehouse as part of the Youth Leadership Association. During this three-day program, students assumed the roles of those in government. Katie Thompson and Sydnee Durnell were legislators and co-authored a bill regulating chemical usage. Mia Printz and Mataya Penhorwood were co-bill authors on a bill mandating active shooter drills for Ohio schools. Denalyn Rogers authored a bill on housing discrimination, and Sam Jackson and Chantel Smithers co-authored a bill on abortion rights. Jackson, Thompson, Printz and Smithers were committee chairs, and Printz became the first CCS student elected Speaker of the House.
