Hi-Point SkillsUSA students head to state


Ohio Hi-Point Career Center hosted the 2017 Southwest Regional SkillsUSA Competition March 4 and had almost 900 students from other career centers contending for their chance to move on to the SkillsUSA Ohio Championships. Following the competition, students and staff gathered at Indian Lake High School for the awards ceremony where the top 3 contestants from each event were presented with medals. Ohio Hi-Point bronze medalists were Makala Thirkield (Marysville HS) for Esthetics, Wesley Kidder (Riverside HS) for Welding, Shaylynn Baum (Kenton HS) for Customer Service, Philip Corwin (Riverside HS) for Job Interview, and the Opening and Closing team members Alexandra Bushatz, Rachel Clarridge, Kierstynn Terry (Marysville HS), Brook Detrick (Triad HS), Hailey Freytag (Upper Scioto Valley HS), Kimberly Reynolds (Urbana HS), Brooklyn Thacker, and Samantha Turner (Kenton HS). Silver medalists were Victoria Fraley (Urbana HS) for Cosmetology, Brendan Ralston (Marysville HS) for Prepared Speech, and Logan Miller (Indian Lake HS) for Information Technology Services. The podium finishers will compete in Columbus starting April 11.
